My favorite things: July 2015

It’s July! And I love that I get to start the month with a 3-day weekend 🙂 I originally planned to watch fireworks at a nearby lake to celebrate Independence Day, but then my husband and I went out for ramen, went into a food coma, and ended up being lazy at home and playing video games. Oh well!

Though we spent much of the weekend just playing video games, part of it was productive too. We spent a few hours doing yardwork on Saturday and a few hours cleaning the house on Friday and Sunday. Though the cleaning part isn’t fun, it does feel good afterwards. We managed to throw away, recycle, or donate a bunch of things in our house. It feels good to de-clutter!

The beginning of the month also means my July entry for the My Favorite Things link-up! It’s where you write about your favorite things for the past month. Check it out if you’re interested in joining!

Psycho Pass

I finally got around to watching this show! My husband and I were watching nothing but One Piece for a while in an attempt to catch up with it. (We’re still 100 episodes behind…) We recently put ourselves on a schedule, such that we rotate through a few shows instead of focusing on one: Daredevil, Psycho Pass, and One Piece. Once one is finished, a new show will go in its place.

Anyway, I’ve really been enjoying Psycho Pass! It takes place in a future where a system is in place to measure people’s mental state and whether they’re likely to commit a crime. The series follows Akane, who is an Inspector and works with latent crimals (Enforcers) to solve crimes that have happened. I like how dark the cases are and how things start to tie together as the series goes along. It’s on Netflix if you want to watch it!

Dishonored

I finished this game a couple days ago, and I had a lot of fun with it. I love stealth games! Dishonored is fun because it offers several different options for how to accomplish your goal. There’s usually multiple travel paths, and you can choose whether to take a violent or non-lethal route.

I went the non-lethal way because I liked thinking about how to approach each situation without being seen and figuring out where to hide unconscious bodies. (By the way, talking about hiding bodies in a game in public sometimes gets you very strange looks from nearby people.)

Onigirazu

I don’t really need to talk much about this because I already dedicated an entry to it 😉 After writing that entry, I made onigirazu 6 more times to bring to work for lunch, though now I’m making just one onigirazu with some sort of vegetable side for each meal (instead of two onigirazu). The one with egg and sandwich meats is still my favorite! I want to try some vegetarian ideas next, so I’m definitely not tired of this yet.

Oh, and you might notice that this is posted in the My Favorite Things category on my site, which I made just recently. I figured it was time to make categories for some of the blog series that I do, so you can find a list of them on my sidebar 🙂

And lastly, I think a few of my recent emails have been marked as spam? If you could check your spam folders for any emails from me or my blog and unmark them as spam, that’d be helpful! Thanks!

  • Psycho Pass sounds like an interesting show! I love the plot I’d read. That food looks yummy *.*

  • Raisa says:

Psycho Pass!! XD I love that anime so much. I listed it on my favorites post a few months ago, but I wasn’t nearly as coherent as you. I was just all SHIRTLESS KOUGAMI IS GOOD. Hehe.

    • Cat says:

haha, I remember when you listed Psycho Pass on your favorites post XD I thought of your Kogami GIFs when that scene came on!

  • Mija says:

My sister followed your steps to onigirazu and loved it!!! I’m trying it out this weekend :9!!!!

  • Tara says:

Onigirazu! I really need to try that one of these days! Just gotta muster up the energy to do so!!!

  • Chantelle says:

I’m amazed by the onigirazu. I can’t believe I’ve never heard of it before. It looks like something I’m capable of doing, so I must try it and throw it in a bento box.

    • Cat says:

I only learned of onigirazu recently! It’s very easy to make, especially since the filling can be anything you want. I recommend trying it!

  • Michelle says:

I so need to watch Psycho Pass, but I really need to finish Kill La Kill and get back to anime watching. I’ve been heavily invested into Person 4 Golden and Batman Arkham Knight, that I forgot to watch anime.

Hahaha, that doesn’t surprise me about getting weird looks from the people. You have to do what you have to do, I suppose. I’m thinking about doing the nonlethal way in Dishonored as well, even if Tumblr helped spoil the story for me, at least key parts. Argh.

    • Cat says:

Kill la Kill was good too! We make time for Anime by watching it as we eat dinner, haha.

Tumblr is bad about spoilers 🙁 I wish people would be considerate and tag them, since I use Tumblr Savior and can block that tag. I’m considering doing another Dishonored playthrough with the lethal route, but I’m glad I tried the non-lethal way.

  • Holland says:

Dishonored looks so interesting. The art just intrigues me so much. I think my boyfriend played it and finished it when we were still living in China. Maybe I’ll ask him to let me play one day, but I’ve never really been big on gaming. And when I do play something I get ridiculously competitive and focused to the point of screaming profanities at the TV/game 😛

    • Cat says:

I know the feeling. I get pretty competitive or get too picky about being a perfectionist, haha. Fortunately, Dishonored lets you save whenever you want, so I was frequently reloading save points if I messed up somewhere. I recommend trying it!

  • Chynna says:

I really need to de-clutter as well. You just feel freer when things are less messy! Psycho Pass sounds interesting. I haven’t watched any anime in a while. I think the last one I watch was Attack on Titan.

Really want to try making onigirazu! Looks delicious 🙂

    • Cat says:

Attack on Titan was a good one too 😀 I wish they didn’t delay season 2 so long. I hope you give onigirazu a try! It’s very easy and tasty!

  • Jhanz says:

Onigirazu looks delicious!!! I just read your entry and now I want to make one myself. T_T

  • Kya says:

That is a really great way to watch different shows. Doesn’t overwhelm you with just one. 😀

Haha, yeah, overhearing someone talking about hiding bodies would be a little awkward haha. <3

  • Christine says:

Your lunches always look delicious!! 🙂 Let me know when you make some veggie versions so I can try them out!

  • Liv says:

For my July 4th weekend I spent four days in bed … I kind of crashed and burned. I didn’t even get up for video games. Sometimes the best plan is NO PLANS because we all need to recharge, especially if you skip the intended nightly recharge.

If you rotate many different shows does it get confusing? I’ve never watched more than one anime/show at once! Naruto alone confuses me enough hehe. Psycho Pass sounds really interesting, it sounds like some futuristic controlled society I’ve always thought would make a scary story. 😀

I’ve lately been playing a stealth game at the NYU Game Center and I’m so bad at it! I wonder how I’ll do in Dishonored. I remember I always couldn’t stand the stealth areas in Zelda games, like Silent Realms AGHH!

I think you posted a recipe and I will check that out because I want to be able to make my own lunches soon!

    • Cat says:

haha, I totally agree that sometimes the best plan is no plans! I love lazy weekends.

      I think it helps that the 3 shows we’re watching aren’t very similar to each other. It makes it easier to keep the plots straight, but sometimes we forget what happened last XD;;

I’m not a fan of the stealth parts of Zelda games because they’re not very typical of stealth games. Dishonored gives you powers to help stay stealthy, so it’s very enjoyable 🙂

  • Eirene says:

Raisa has been telling me to watch Psycho Pass and I keep forgetting lol, but I love the premise behind it! I love how you and your husband made a schedule for your shows! I often just breeze through one (show with all its series) and I end up feeling a little bereft and lost in the end haha.

I’m going to check out your post abotu Onigirazu because that looks yummy and I need more lunch options!

  • Alice says:

all my favorites in this post! psycho pass is amazing and i’m glad you watched it. it’s one of the best and fresh originally written anime series ever 😉 have you watched the sequel? i can’t wait for the movie tbh.

and dishonored!! i’m still so happy that you’re playing it!!

    • Cat says:

I’m actually not done with the first season yet! It’s taking me longer since I’m rotating between a few shows, but I’m near the end. I’ll look for the sequel afterwards because I’m really liking this one XD

  • Nancy says:

Hope you enjoyed your three day weekend (though it sounded like you did ;D).

It’s good to rotate between shows. That way, you don’t get burnt out from watching a marathon at a time. (I suppose that’s why shows come at a weekly basis then goes on a looooooong break). I’ve heard Daredevil is pretty good!

Stealth games are awesome! It’s pretty neat that you can go both ways to finishing the game. I can’t imagine the NPC’s reacting to you trying to hide the dead bodies XD. I’m almost used to them minding their own business. Sounds better than Skyrim already!

I rememebred the onigirazu! I think this is an awesome meal, it’s compact and easy to make!

  • Ongaku says:

Psycho Pass was different for sure. I really enjoyed the first season but on the second season I was feeling a little meh about it, though fun to watch the first time it probably won’t be something I watch again.

I love the onigirazu!! When you made that post I went and made my own and loved it! I have only experimented with Salmon fillings but I have plans to try more. It works so well for my low-fodmap diet. XD

    • Cat says:

I’m glad you tried the onigirazu and loved it! It’s great for different diets since it’s so flexible and the sushi rice itself is gluten-free 🙂
