My Favorite Things: April 2016

It’s been a few months since I last did this link-up! I think I just had a period where I didn’t have new, interesting things to share. My Favorite Things is a monthly link-up hosted by Raisa and Eirene, and these are my recent favorites!

Sewing: Pattern Weights

pattern_weights

I’ve seen pattern weights before that were pretty much bean bags, but I wasn’t interested in them until I saw these that were shaped to fit pattern shapes. I love that it has curved pieces to put near neck or arm holes, and they are actually heavier than they look. They keep my patterns firmly in place while I trace them on fabric. It saves me time since I don’t have to pin them to the fabric anymore!

Anime: Parasyte -the maxim-

anime_parasyte

I actually watched this back in December and have been wanting to write about it. This Anime was a pleasant surprise, and I liked it more than I expected to. It’s about parasites that suddenly appear on Earth and have the ability to take over a body if it reaches the brain. After taking over a human, they start hunting and eating other humans.

The story focuses on Shinichi, who managed to stop the parasite from reaching his brain. Instead, it takes over his right hand! The series quickly gets interesting as the parasites evolve and start to question their existence and what it really means to be “human”. I will warn you that the Anime is very bloody and gory, but if you can stomach it, I highly recommend it. It’s one of the more memorable series I’ve seen in a while.

Game: Ultimate Chicken Horse

Remember when I wrote about making a console PC to play multiplayer PC games on the TV? Well, we’ve hosted 2 game nights with it already! While we’ve played several great games, the crowd favorite seems to be Ultimate Chicken Horse.

First off, it’s super cute. The graphics, animations, and sound effects are just adorable and well done. Second, it’s a fun concept; it’s like collaborating on building a level… except you also hate each other. Each round, each player gets one piece to place on the level. The goal is to make a course that you can finish but will kill the other players. Much laughing, yelling, and sabotage ensues!

Song: Child of Light OST

It’s been a couple years since I played Child of Light, but something reminded me of it recently, so I looked up its soundtrack. This soundtrack is seriously gorgeous, and I’ve been listening to it lately while at work. I’m going to share a few favorites, but I do recommend giving the whole album a listen.

Aurora’s Theme – the main character’s theme, a deep and melancholy song.

Metal Gleamed in the Twilight – an exciting and heroic song, as if an epic battle was about to happen.

Pilgrims On a Long Journey – soft song with hints of loneliness.

That’s it from me! I’m still very much focused on my cosplay project, so I will be updating my cosplay blog more frequently than here. Hopefully I’ll have more favorite things to report next month!

That anime sounds neat! The first thing that popped in my head was Animorphs, until I read the part about eating humans and I’m like, “Uh, nope, not that similar!” Glad you enjoyed that, though! I haven’t watched any new animes in ages. I should watch something new . . .

And thanks for introducing me to Child of Light OST! You’re right in that it’s amazing! Beautiful music! I’m definitely checking that out!

  • Vicky says:

I might have to give that anime a watch! o: It sounds really interesting and right up my alley. (Also reminded me of Animorphs at first, haha.)

  • Jean says:

Looking forward to your cosplay projects 🙂 Good thing you found that pattern weights. That Anime looks interesting, tho I am not really into gore but I might give it a try because of the interesting plot. Thanks for posting about this! 🙂

  • Joy says:

Those pattern weights look awesome! I had no idea they had such a thing and that saves a ton of time!

  • Amy says:

Pattern weights are a great idea! Pattern paper can be a pain, especially when it curls at the edges. I never even knew they did such a thing!

Parasyte sounds like a great series. We’re watching Bleach at the moment, as I’ve never seen it before. It’s great so far!

Ultimate Chicken Horse looks so cute!

  • Pauline says:

I always love reading about your cosplay projects, that sounds awesome 🙂

I like the sound of that anime! I haven’t watched anime in years, I really need to get back into it.

I LOVE CHILD OF LIGHT, THE SOUNDTRACK IS AMAZING TOO! (Obviously very excited!) I remember playing it like 2 years ago, during the summer with my boyfriend. He loves it too!

  • Raisa says:

I’ve seen gifs of Parasyte on Tumblr before! Been meaning to watch it once I get through my backlog of shows.

Ultimate Chicken Horse looks sooo cute! I can definitely see how it can ruin friendships hahaha.

  • Becca says:

Those sewing weights are so cool! It makes total sense that they come in curved and shapes. I’ve never heard of using weights before, but I can imagine how much time that would save.

I have been watching a lot of Miyazaki movies lately because they are on our 250 list, and they’ve all been so good that we just keep watching more and more! 😛 I’ve not watched a lot of anime before but I am absolutely loving these, so I will have to keep yours in mind, too! It sounds interesting!

  • Nancy says:

I am digging the styling of the weights! If it’s heavy, then it’s doing the right thing by holding the paper down ;).

Parastyle reminds me of Knights of Sidonia because of the parasite and gore XD. I’ll see where I can give it a try at. Chicken Horse looks like an adorable game XD.

Out of the three OST’s, I like Metal Gleamed the most- makes sense because it’s exciting and ~WOW~

  • Kya says:

The pattern weights look amazing! I am sure that they would be so helpful when you are sewing and making cool things. 😀

Hahaha. That sounds like such a great game to play with other people. xD

  • Sarah says:

Those weights look interesting. I haven’t done any sewing in years but I can see how that would be useful.

I haven’t seen that anime but that makes me think of David Tennant in Doctor Who 😀

That game looks like fun, if a little brutal! 😀 I might check it out!

  • Mailan says:

Ultimate Chicken Horse seems to be a lot of fun! I love games that destroy my friendships with people one move at a time! Hahahahaha! Congrats on your successful game nights. I hope I can play it someday. 🙂

  • Jenny says:

Aww, I’m loving the graphics on the Ultimate Chicken Horse game! The game concept is great too – I love that it’s both collaborative and competitive 😀 Now I just need to setup a console PC for our TV as well!

  • Michelle says:

Parasyte looks gory, reminds of how they thought that Tokyo Ghoul was just as gory. <3 Yes, Child of Light has a great soundtrack, but to me, it's not very memorable to be honest. Have you heard Nier's music? It's in the same vein as Child of Light's music, but more emphasis on the music.

  • Holly says:

Those sewing weights look so handy! I always get frustrated about pinning templates to the fabric because they always end up moving. I guess these weights would help a lot.

I’m definitely going to check Ultimate Chicken Horse out. It looks like my type of game.

  • Eirene says:

Ooh that anime looks interesting! I’ll definitely put that on my to-watch list for when I”m craving something violent haha. And that game looks adorable!

  • Tess says:

The sewing weights reminds me of calligraphy paper weights… keeps the light stuff down. Are you sewing your next cosplay outfit?? 😀

I haven’t seen that anime yet but I’m going to add it to my list now since I’ve been on an anime binge anyways lol

  • Chynna says:

Those pattern weights are pretty good! I bet my mum would love those 🙂

That anime sounds interesting. I might have to check it out – I haven’t watched an anime in ages!

Ahahaha, I want to play Ultimate Chicken Horse. First of all, AWESOME name and second, it looks like a LOT of fun!

  • Ongaku says:

Those weights look pretty cool! I really need to get over my fear of sewing and just got for it. LOL

That show was surprisingly good. I enjoyed it anyway.

  • Olivia says:

All this time I’ve been using tape to stick my patterns to the fabric XD Which works but results in pulling tape off the fabric and possibly fraying it D: Then again, I usually work on the floor (carpet) anyway, so weights don’t work because it gets unstable. But they look really useful!
I haven’t seen Parasyte, actually I haven’t been watching anything lately (aside from the 3 I bingewatched during spring break lol). No anime really catches my attention but when I’m free I think I’m going on a spree 😀 Will put this one on the top of the list, though! Thanks for the recommendation ^^

    • Cat says:

Pins work well if you don’t have weights! I actually bought a large cutting mat to work on the floor, so I’d have a flat surface 🙂

  • Mija says:

Child of Light is so lovely! I think we’ve talked about Ori right? The music on that game is so pretty!!

Those weights are awesome – did you get them online or at a store?

    • Cat says:

I mentioned Ori on Miitomo 😀 I bought the weights online at Nancy’s Notions. I get my pattern paper from there too!

Sorry! This entry is old, so comments are closed. Check out my recent blog posts though!
