Maui – part 2

I wanted to cover 2-3 days every entry, but on day 4 (11/10), we did Road to Hana! We stopped by enough places that it deserved its own entry.

Our plans for day 4 were a bit more ambitious than we expected. Prior to our vacation, I looked up places to photograph in Maui and came across Iao Valley. It looked beautiful, so we started there in the morning.

It was beautiful indeed! It was also kind of misleading as I thought it was a hiking spot, but the path was paved and very short. After we went up to the lookout area, we came across this sign:

Yep. Phallic stone. Now I cannot unsee… well, uh, yeah.

So after that short stop, we started on the Road to Hana. In hindsight, we probably should have dedicated more time to it. The road is winding, and in some places, only narrow enough for one car, so it’s a very slow drive. It takes close to 2 hours to drive from Paia to Hana, and you also want to leave enough time to drive back before the sun sets.

However, the point of the Road to Hana isn’t actually to get to Hana. That’s just what the road leads to, and most recommend going past Hana. All of the stops along the way are actually why people make the journey, and it’s why it ends up taking many hours. There’s amazing views, waterfalls, and parks all along the way.

Timeless thoughts: City of Heroes

Timeless Thoughts is a link-up run by Tara and Georgie! I actually wanted to participate since the beginning but never knew what to write. Raisa’s World of Warcraft entry took me back to my MMO days, and I do actually miss the very first MMO I tried: City of Heroes.

I started with City of Heroes in college with friends, and we also played a bit of City of Villains later on. City of Heroes was a brand new world to me. I didn’t have prior experience with online games, and it was a weird feeling to suddenly be surrounded by so many strangers. I was so terrible at first and got lost and died on the way to our first mission. It also made me realize that the online world isn’t always negative. When that happened, an experienced player ran over to revive and help me! (And then I had issues figuring out how to /whisper back to thank the person XD;;)

Also, City of Heroes/Villains were not your traditional MMOs. They were known for being able to design your character’s look and costume, so there was no gear to get… otherwise, you’d cover up your costume! Instead, there was an enhancements system for your powers. Player-run costume contests were pretty common in the game. Instead of a mount system, you chose what super power your hero/villain would use to get around: super speed, super jump, flight, or teleportation.

My Favorite Things: December 2015

Wahhh! It’s the last month of the year! I know everyone says this all the time, but can you believe the year is almost over? Now that it’s the beginning of another month, it’s time for the My Favorite Things link-up, hosted by Raisa and Eirene! These are things I loved last month!

Gudetama RE-MENT set

Gudetama is an egg character created by Sanrio. Yes, the company that brought us Hello Kitty has also brought us this… lazy egg thing that just… lays there. I love him though! I think his merchandise is so funny, and I just had to order this miniatures blind box set by RE-MENT. The pieces in this one are actually bigger than what I’m used to from RE-MENT, and my favorite is the toast one. Their sets always have nice details!

Though this is a blind box set, I ordered the whole thing, which guarantees one of each. Incase you don’t know, I have the worst luck when it comes to blind boxes and capsule toys.

Exhibit A: In Japan, I tried 4 times at a One Piece capsule machine and got doubles TWICE. I got two Namis and two Choppers. At that point, my husband had to drag me away before I wasted more money trying to get Zoro.

Exhibit B: At a con, I found a One Piece blind box set and saw that I liked all of the characters except for one, Señor Pink. My chances of getting one I liked was pretty good right? Well…

There are many more examples where I continually get doubles or get the one character I do not want in a set. Why blind box gods? Why do you curse me??
