My Favorite Things: December 2015

Wahhh! It’s the last month of the year! I know everyone says this all the time, but can you believe the year is almost over? Now that it’s the beginning of another month, it’s time for the My Favorite Things link-up, hosted by Raisa and Eirene! These are things I loved last month!

Gudetama RE-MENT set

gudetama_rement

Gudetama is an egg character created by Sanrio. Yes, the company that brought us Hello Kitty has also brought us this… lazy egg thing that just… lays there. I love him though! I think his merchandise is so funny, and I just had to order this miniatures blind box set by RE-MENT. The pieces in this one are actually bigger than what I’m used to from RE-MENT, and my favorite is the toast one. Their sets always have nice details!

Though this is a blind box set, I ordered the whole thing, which guarantees one of each. Incase you don’t know, I have the worst luck when it comes to blind boxes and capsule toys.

Exhibit A: In Japan, I tried 4 times at a One Piece capsule machine and got doubles TWICE. I got two Namis and two Choppers. At that point, my husband had to drag me away before I wasted more money trying to get Zoro.

Exhibit B: At a con, I found a One Piece blind box set and saw that I liked all of the characters except for one, Señor Pink. My chances of getting one I liked was pretty good right? Well…

There are many more examples where I continually get doubles or get the one character I do not want in a set. Why blind box gods? Why do you curse me??

Taiyaki mold

Taiyaki is a Japanese pastry in the shape of a fish and has a filling inside. I haven’t had one in over a year! The last time I ate one was in Japan! I was reminded of this while trying to plan an Anime night at my house; I decided to do a potluck since we’re watching Food Wars.

I thought taiyaki would be a good idea for a dessert, so I looked up a mold on Amazon, bought it, and then proceeded to mess up my first couple of tries.

It’s ok though because I got the hang of it on my third try. I love it now! I can make my own taiyaki at home! So far I’ve only done Nutella as a filling, but I’d like to try a custard filling next.

Jessica Jones

jessica_jones

Though I’m not done with this series yet, I’m liking it a lot so far! Jessica Jones is the newest Netflix-exclusive Marvel series, which is similar to Daredevil. (Plus, they both take place in Hell’s Kitchen.)

I really enjoyed Daredevil, and I’m actually liking Jessica Jones even more. I find the story more interesting and the characters too. Jessica is a private investigator with super powers and is haunted by past trauma caused by the villain character, who is creepy and super obsessive. She thought she was rid of him, but one of her cases made her realize that he’s back. Now she has to figure out how to stop him. It’s nice to see a female main character with super powers for once! Yay for that!

And that’s it from me this time! I am working on my next Maui entries, so hopefully those will be up later πŸ™‚

The little Gudetama things are so cute! I feel like him a lot. I totally feel you on the blind box thing. One time, when I was younger, I bought a little PokΓ©mon capsule and had a Corpfish. Well, erm, okay, but the worst thing was that the eye stickers weren’t even there! To this day I’m still a little bitter.

I had taiyaki once, it was pretty good. I actually think your first try looks delicious ^_^” But then again, I love all food!

  • Joy says:

Gudetama is so cute! I can’t find any of the merch here in the city but I might have to buy something online. I want to get one for my sister because I thing she would love them!

I’m torn about Jessica Jones. I could watch anything with David Tennant in it but this just had way too many…adult scenes for my comfort lol. I like the story for the most part but can do without those scenes.

Oh my goodness! It’s been months and months since I’ve visited your blog! I am so glad to be back. I love your new header. It is so appropriate for the site!

Those cute little lazy egg things are adorable. I love them all. I know I wouldn’t have much luck with blind boxes either, so I don’t ever try haha. I hope lucks comes your way soon though before all your money is gone LOL.

Your fishy things look tasty. At first I thought it was a meat filling, but I definitely like the sound of nutella better! Even a whipped cream in the middle would be good!! Awesome tastiness.

I haven’t heard of Jessica Jones. I don’t know if they have it on Canadian Netflix. I will have to look. I’ve just finished watching How I Met Your Mother for the second time and it was just as Legen….wait-for-it….dary as the first time!

I want to participate in the My Favourite things posts! Maybe next month!

GUDETAMA!!!!!! AHHHH!! I love that lazy egg! <3 There was a restaurant in LA that was doing a Gudetama special menu last month but I didn't have the time to stop by to check it out. Hopefully they'll do it again :'D

And I feel the same about Jessica Jones! I found myself enjoying it a lot more than Daredevil. I was trying to space the episodes out for myself but I ended up binging it instead. Oops!

  • Tara says:

I never heard of Gudetama, but it sounds like an amusing character! LOL And I’d totally pay for the whole set, too. Blind boxes are annoying, and it’s seriously just a way for companies to force us to buy multiple boxes until we get what we want!

And taiyaki! Koreans have that, too, but we call them bungeobbang! And we usually have red bean paste in them. But Nutella sounds like a real good idea! Custard, too, and ooooh, peanut butter even! If I ever visit you, will you make me some Nutella taiyaki? πŸ˜€

    • Cat says:

Taiyaki often has red bean paste too, but my husband hates red bean, haha. That’s why I went with Nutella πŸ™‚ I would totally make you a Nutella taiyaki!

  • Amy says:

I love your Gudetama set. It’s so cute. I have bad luck with blind bags also. Doubles are so annoying!

OMG Jessica Jones. I’m definitely going to be watching that this week. I’ve been waiting to have the time to start watching. Can’t wait. How good is it?

Hey! I actually love your favourite things, my friend actually has a Gudetama cup and I spent ages trying to figure out if it was an egg pun. But now I know it’s a character how cool!

I’m addicted to Miss Jones, it’s surprisingly good that David Tennant actually gives me chills. I’m excited to see how it ends but im trying to take it slow so I don’t binge.

  • Tess says:

I’ve seen those Gudetama sets when I was in Japan, and heck they were so cute!!

I saw Jessica Jones on Netflix but have yet had the chance to jump on that train. Although I did enjoy DareDevil, so I have confidence that it is a good series πŸ˜€

  • Raisa says:

“It means i need to try again” — Bahaha that is me af. XD

I don’t think I’ve tried taiyaki before, but it looks good and if I can make it at home, I can definitely try it! Would it be a good idea for meat fillings?

    • Cat says:

My husband hates my perseverance with blind boxes XD He always tries to get me to stop, haha.

Here is the recipe I used if you want to give it a try!
      http://www.justonecookbook.com/taiyaki/
The batter is sweet, like a cake or waffle batter, so a meat filling might be a little weird. It’s really good with sweet fillings though πŸ™‚

  • Liv says:

LOL WOW that character is an EGG. I looked him up, he is so funny! And adorable. Count on Japan to give us Hello Kitty and who knows what’s next, something more than an egg that lays there?? Haha can’t really beat that!

The Taiyaki molds seem handy! I’ve never had it before, but I do want to try sometime. I guess I always thought they were made out of a specific type of fish rather than in the shape of the fish with other meat filling.

  • Eirene says:

Ooooooh Gudetama is adorable. Also I feel like me and Gudetema would be pals because if I could, I’d just lie on my bed and… exist lol. Being adorable while doing it would be a great plus haha.

And huh, so that’s what the fish thing in anime is. I’ve always wondered but I never really looked it up. I think at one point I thought it was fish in pastry and was really confused haha. Your nutella filled taiyaki looks so good though! Yum.

  • Jenny says:

Oh Gudetama is so cute! I’ve stopped keeping up with Sanrio but it seems like they’re still releasing very likeable characters πŸ™‚
Nutella Taiyaki sounds amazing, what a great idea to use that instead of the traditional filling!

  • Nancy says:

!!! Everytime I go to any Sanrio shops since seeing that posts, Gudetama reminds me of you XD. I love how cute he is! There are so many cute poses he can do as a yolk. I feel the same with you when it comes to blind boxes. If anything, I would buy more blind boxes until I get the limited edition piece and buy the rest XD… Well, this only applies for the little Disney pill characters. Not sure about everything else.

Taiyaki looks cute and cool!! The first few tries will always be a bit iffy but things get better along the way.

I was binge watching Jessica Jones today! The storyline is interesting and addicting!

Sorry! This entry is old, so comments are closed. Check out my recent blog posts though!
