My Favorite Things: Napa edition

I was trying to decide between posting an entry for the My Favorite Things link-up (hosted by Tara this month!) and an entry about my recent trip to San Francisco and Napa. Then I realized, why not both??

One of my closest friends is getting married this month, and for her bachelorette party, she wanted something small with her 3 closest friends. The 3 of us are married already, and all 4 of us are around 30 years old, so uh… we didn’t want anything crazy! A trip to Napa sounded perfect for us.

My friend lives in San Francisco, so that’s where the 3 of us flew into. I really needed a break from work though. If you’ve been following my entries, you probably saw how I’ve been very busy and stressed the past few months. The trip was supposed to be Fri-Sun, but I flew in a day early on Thursday to spend time with my friend and tour San Francisco.

It’s been many years since I last visited San Francisco. The day I arrived, I lucked out on the weather because it was so sunny and clear. I was actually able to take a photo of the Golden Gate Bridge, unobstructed by fog!

We spent most of the day eating good food and having her show me around to places like Chinatown, Japantown, Sutro Baths, and Pier 39 where all the sea lions gather.

The next day, the other 2 girls arrived, and we took an Uber to Napa. (Getting an Uber to drive out of the city was surprisingly easy to do!) Napa is a gorgeous place – surrounded by mountains and filled with vineyards. You would think that it’s a fancy, arrogant place since it’s nice and focuses on good food and wine, but it’s actually very casual and laid back.

My favorite things: July 2015

It’s July! And I love that I get to start the month with a 3-day weekend 🙂 I originally planned to watch fireworks at a nearby lake to celebrate Independence Day, but then my husband and I went out for ramen, went into a food coma, and ended up being lazy at home and playing video games. Oh well!

Though we spent much of the weekend just playing video games, part of it was productive too. We spent a few hours doing yardwork on Saturday and a few hours cleaning the house on Friday and Sunday. Though the cleaning part isn’t fun, it does feel good afterwards. We managed to throw away, recycle, or donate a bunch of things in our house. It feels good to de-clutter!

The beginning of the month also means my July entry for the My Favorite Things link-up! It’s where you write about your favorite things for the past month. Check it out if you’re interested in joining!

Psycho Pass

I finally got around to watching this show! My husband and I were watching nothing but One Piece for a while in an attempt to catch up with it. (We’re still 100 episodes behind…) We recently put ourselves on a schedule, such that we rotate through a few shows instead of focusing on one: Daredevil, Psycho Pass, and One Piece. Once one is finished, a new show will go in its place.

Anyway, I’ve really been enjoying Psycho Pass! It takes place in a future where a system is in place to measure people’s mental state and whether they’re likely to commit a crime. The series follows Akane, who is an Inspector and works with latent crimals (Enforcers) to solve crimes that have happened. I like how dark the cases are and how things start to tie together as the series goes along. It’s on Netflix if you want to watch it!

My favorite things: June 2015

Thanks to those who were concerned and asked if I was ok because of the recent flooding! Some of you might know that Texas and Oklahoma have been getting a ridiculous amount of rain, which has caused severe flooding in some cities. I live in Austin, which did flood, but mainly in and near the downtown areas. I live in the north part of Austin, which fortunately didn’t flood. We just lost power a few times, and that was it.

On a positive note, the weather has been great lately (no more rain!), and it’s time for another entry to the My Favorite Things link up! Here’s what I’ve been loving the past month.

Haikyuu!!

haikyu

I’m a sucker for sports Anime. They are kind of ridiculous and exaggerate everything, but they really pull me in and make sports more exciting than the real thing. Haikyuu!! is one about volleyball, focusing on the high school, Karasuno. I also finished the second season of Free! recently, which is about swimming.

What I like about both Haikyuu and Free is that no one has “super powers“, and while they have good players, none of them are perfect. (As much as I love Prince of Tennis, that series was very guilty of this.) They still have cheesy lines and drawn out scenes, but at least the moves they do are somewhat believable. Anyway, Haikyuu is a fun series to watch, and the characters crack me up 🙂 I can see why it’s been so popular lately!
