Recap: June 2018

June was another busy month where most of my hobbies took a back seat! From dealing with baby stuff to having out of town guests, June was quite a blur for me.

Baby Stuff

Being in my third trimester means that my doctor appointments are more frequent now, changing from every 4 weeks to every 2 weeks. (Then later, it’ll be every week.) We also started taking baby classes!

In June, my husband and I attended two 2.5 hour classes offered by the hospital I go to. One was for breastfeeding and the other was a “baby care bootcamp”. At first, we were like… why is the breastfeeding class so long…?? But it ended up being a lot of information we didn’t know, and it was really informative and useful. I actually got more out of that than the “baby care bootcamp” one, which briefly went over several things about taking care of a baby. In July, we start birthing classes!

We also started putting together the nursery. There’s still more to do, but we have most of the furniture, and I started decorating it.

Recap: May 2018

If I had to sum up May, it’d be one huge cleaning and decluttering month. In addition to moving my sewing room, I also started tidying up and decluttering several rooms of our house. Everything else took a back seat (especially my hobbies) since I spent almost every day doing some sort of clean up.

I had a few big motivators!

  • The first is obviously the baby coming soon. I really needed to move the sewing room, so I could get started on the nursery, and cleaning up the house will help with baby proofing later.
  • My husband and I have also been thinking about moving to a different neighborhood within the next few years, and the thought of moving all the things we own seriously stressed me out. The more I can declutter now, the easier it’ll be later.
  • Two of my closest friends are visiting me from out of town (on two separate weekends) in June and will be staying at my house! I definitely need to make our place more presentable!
  • One of them is coming to host my baby shower, which will also be at my house. So yeah, I really need to get cleaning!

Recap: March 2018

March was very much a birthday month, not only for me but for several coworkers. I celebrated mine with lots of food, and then I baked for my coworkers! It actually gave me a chance to try out a few new things I’ve been wanting to do.

For one coworker, I baked mint chocolate chip cookies, which is a recipe I’m already known for. For the others, I did new things:

  • Chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream – I normally do a mint buttercream with chocolate, but I made a chocolate buttercream this time to make it super chocolately. I forgot to take photos of this though!
  • Spiced chocolate cupcakes with cream cheese frosting – I wanted to try a smokey and spicy chocolate cake, so I altered my recipe to include cinnamon, ancho, and cayenne. I paired it with a cream cheese frosting to contrast with the spice.
  • Chiffon cake with strawberry jam and whipped cream frosting – Each part was a new recipe for me! (How did I not realize how easy it is to make jam??) This cake was light and refreshing compared to my usual flavor-rich cakes.

They were all a big hit, especially the spiced chocolate cake! I’m glad I have coworkers who are willing to be my taste testers 😉
