Sewing room make over, part 2

Five years ago, I gave my sewing room a total make-over. I cleaned it up, re-organized the room layout, and bought new storage items. Several years later, it became a mess again, and I wanted to give it another make-over.

My husband suggested that we actually move my sewing room, so we could use its spot for the nursery. I was open to the idea since we did have a spare room we weren’t using, and this would give me a chance to start over. That’s what I’ve been busy with lately!

There’s still a couple things I want to do, but for the most part, I’m now moved over to the new room. Let’s take a tour, shall we?

From the photo above, you can see that there’s a weird narrow entryway before you reach the room itself. This gave me some more wall space to hang things, but it also cut out some space in the room. I found out this new room is narrower than the previous room by 2 feet. I still made it work though!

Home Decor – entryway

We had a messy entryway for a while because we had wooden boards and flattened cardboard boxes leaned against the wall. A few months ago, we cleaned those out, and while it looked better, it still looked very plain.

I wanted to do something about it! At the very least, I wanted something for guests to sit down at while they put on their shoes. I had a few things in mind:

  1. A console table and two chairs – one on each side of the table
  2. A bench and a coat rack
  3. A bench and wall hooks

I ended up going with idea #2. I liked the idea of using a bench because it could fit more people, and it doubles as a shoe rack. I’ve also always liked the look of coat racks. They can look nice when empty and are also functional to hang things on.

So we bought them!

Home Decor – Guest Room

Well, I managed to finish a couple tasks from my last entry, which leads to this post about our guest room 🙂 I’ve been working on tidying it up lately. It should really be called the “hand me downs” room because every piece of furniture in it is something that we used to use. For example, the bed and nightstand were mine before my husband and I moved in together.

I went with a green theme to the room, which you can see by the bedsheets and curtains. I made the curtains myself, though I’m not sure if it saves money since the fabric + notions comes out to $30+. I really did it because there’s a larger variety in prints, and I can make them in the style I want.
