Recap: June 2018

June was another busy month where most of my hobbies took a back seat! From dealing with baby stuff to having out of town guests, June was quite a blur for me.

Baby Stuff

Being in my third trimester means that my doctor appointments are more frequent now, changing from every 4 weeks to every 2 weeks. (Then later, it’ll be every week.) We also started taking baby classes!

In June, my husband and I attended two 2.5 hour classes offered by the hospital I go to. One was for breastfeeding and the other was a “baby care bootcamp”. At first, we were like… why is the breastfeeding class so long…?? But it ended up being a lot of information we didn’t know, and it was really informative and useful. I actually got more out of that than the “baby care bootcamp” one, which briefly went over several things about taking care of a baby. In July, we start birthing classes!

We also started putting together the nursery. There’s still more to do, but we have most of the furniture, and I started decorating it.

As you can see, I’ve chosen a Totoro theme! That’s probably not surprising if you know how much I love Studio Ghibli šŸ™‚

Out of Town Guests

I spent the first half of June doing a lot of decluttering and clean-up of our house to prepare for guests that would be staying over. Lemme tell ya… it’s been a long time since I’ve done a full house clean-up like this. It actually feels really good to finally have the house in a tidier and cleaner state.

From June 22nd to the 24th, one of my closest friends and his wife flew over to visit us from LA! Even though we talk to each other online almost daily, it was still great to hang out with him in person. We ate so much food and played hours and hours of video games. When it came to food, I made sure we got Texas staples like kolaches/klobanisky, tacos, and of course, Texas BBQ. It was a good weekend!

Then the very next weekend, one of my other closest friends flew in from San Francisco to host and throw me a baby shower! She did an amazing job, and it was a lot of fun! Since the nursery was Totoro themed, we did the same for the baby shower and chose gray, green, and yellow as color schemes. I still hadn’t revealed the gender, so those were perfect gender neutral colors!

We had a lot of food and drinks for people to eat and mingle, video games going on the side, a onsie decorating station with fabric markers and fabric cut-outs, and a baby guessing game. We picked a few of my baby photos and mixed them with baby photos of my cousins, and we picked a few of my husband’s baby photos and mixed them with photos of his brother. People had to figure out which ones were me and him. It was pretty funny to see what people chose!

New Project

The last notable thing for June was that I started my new photography project, which is toy/figure photography. It’s something I’ve been wanting to get into for a while, and now that I’m on break from doing photoshoots, this seemed like a good time. Plus, I didn’t want my photography skills to get rusty while on this break and taking photos at home of my figures is easier than going out to meet clients.

You can follow Tiny Teabox on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook!

I kind of hate juggling multiple social media accounts, but I picked the major three, so that people can follow whichever is easiest for them. However, my main focus is on the Instagram account right now since toy photography engagement seems to be higher there. I will get around to growing the other two later!

Now that it’s July, I hope to focus on the last baby things I need to do and tying up loose ends at work before taking maternity leave (since I’m due in August). Have a good month everyone!

I love all of the prepping you’ve been doing for the baby’s welcoming! Love the nursery you’ve put together. It’s pretty cool that you hosted a guest from LA! OH MAN, TEXAS BBQ IS SO GOOD! LOL. I want to go back to Texas for the food XD.

OMG THESE COOKIES ARE SO CUTE!!! Love the baby shower – it’s so interactive with your husband and his brother’s baby pictures mixed up XD. Love that you started a new project. I can relate to the whole social media part. I tried to have another IG and I totally flopped on that one. But sending you lots of positive vibes!!!!

The nursery is looking amazing, and it sounds like you all had a great time at the shower! I’m so excited for you ahhh!!

It’s great that you could do the classes and learn so much from the breastfeeding one. It would probably start to feel like you were at the doctor’s a lot, but it would be important to make sure everything was going well and you and bub are healthy. I absolutely adore the theme for the nursery! It is already looking so cute and can’t wait to see it finished (I am smiling so wide seeing the pictures).

Aww, so great you got to spend time with your friends. Having that time to chill, eat and play games would have been awesome. The baby shower looks soooo cute. šŸ˜€

Woo, I love the new project. I am a fan of toy photography and I will make sure to follow along. šŸ™‚

I’m getting super excited reading about your baby adventures! I can imagine that taking baby classes is important, I would personally attend loads because even the thought of the whole thing scares me. I bet seeing others in the same position is calming too!

That’s super nice that your friend threw you a baby shower – ahhh it’s all feeling real! I’m super excited for you <3

I'm excited to see what photography project you have coming up! šŸ˜€

  • Amy says:

Sounds like you’re going to be very prepared when the baby arrives! I’d definitely be going to all the classes too. We don’t have many young children in our family, as me and my sister are the youngest, so I think I’d need all the help I could get!

I love the nursery so much, it looks amazing. You’ve definitely picked the best theme for it. Go Totoro! Hope you manage to get everything done!

Glad you had fun at the baby shower. I love the Totoro cookies and cakes. They’re the cutest! And the activities sound like a lot
    of fun too.

Good luck with the new photography project!

The Totoro theme is amazing. So incredibly cute! I bet your baby will love it šŸ˜€
Baby showers aren’t a thing in my country, but it seems like a nice way to celebrate motherhood and welcome a new child. I like the idea of the baby photos game! And those cookies! Did you make them yourself?

Toy photography sounds like a fun niche. Most of the time toys are just decorations (when owned by adults anyway) but this way you get some creative use out of them too. Good luck with your project! šŸ™‚

    • Cat says:

Oops, sorry for the late reply! And thanks! I did make the cookies šŸ™‚ I was able to find Totoro cookie cutters on Etsy, which were perfect for the baby shower theme.

  • Mija says:

Ah we picked Totoro too!!! Now she is super in love with Cat Bus (more so than her Totoro plushies lol)

I can’t want until your baby is here!!! We took all those classes too, I was soooo sleepy but there was alot of good info. I wish I took a baby cpr class. Our kid is now 2 so I know if I have baby #2 I will for sure take a cpr class for infants!

I need more friends with babies!!! I hope our kids can meet up at a con one day!!!

I’m a bit behind, but I definitely knew you were doing figurine photography – makes sense since you probably have more than enough going out without running out to meet clients! I think I’m following your account on Instagram.

Speaking of Instagram, I remember seeing the Totoro themed nursery and I’m so thrilled for you and your baby! What a wonderful, gender-neutral room decor! I love the onesies – they are adorable. I might have to steal that idea when I throw a baby shower for someone I know soon! šŸ™‚

“I kind of hate juggling multiple social media accounts” – Same, sista, same. lol I stopped actually and have closed so many sites and social media accounts now. 0_0

OMG a Totoro themed baby room. That is so cute ā™„ Looks like such a nice time with your friends and with the baby shower. That is awesome.

The pictures of the figurines is an adorable idea. I should try it out sometime to give myself something to do with my cameras. I feel bad. I haven’t used them in awhile because my time and energy is limited.

  • Rezina says:

I saw these pictures on Twitter and the Totoro themed baby room is sooo cute!! The Totoro cookies are also really cute!! Your friend did an amazing job.

I also noticed that toy accounts tend to be more popular on Instagram. I was looking through a few toy accounts and there are so many cute, unique looking toys out there!

  • Etta says:

Wow, time flies. I think this is my first time learning about your pregnancy. Belated well wishes and congrats to you and yours! Time really flies doesn’t it. I can see you’re taking your time preparing for the due date. You’ll be a great mother, I’m sure of it. šŸ™‚ Take care!
