The declutter house tour, part 1

The past couple of years, I’ve made a lot of progress when it comes to decluttering our house. Even so, I always feel like I could do more, and lately, I’ve really felt overwhelmed by the amount of things we still owned. I don’t want to have this much stuff.

So, I stuck a task on my digital to-do list labeled, “declutter house tour“, and made a subtask of every room and closet in our house. I want to do a full sweep and pare down the things we own. It’s going to take some time, so I’ll show my progress as I go!

The Rooms

Master bedroom – main closet
My husband and I have actually gone through this closet before and picked out a bunch of clothing to donate/recycle. We went through it again and found even more to give away – lots of clothing that haven’t been worn in a long time. Plus, I found that I kept a broken hairdryer (why did I do that??) and had unopened toothbrushes from my dentist visits.

Hawaii 2018, part 3: Snorkeling Adventures

Early in the trip, we tried out a couple snorkel places on Big Island, and on days 5 and 6 we did more – one of which was very memorable!

Day 5: morning and night snorkels

In the morning, my family and I headed to one of the most popular snorkel places on Big Island: Honaunau Bay aka Two Step. Not only does it have wonderful coral reefs and fish to look at, it’s also known to be a place where sea turtles and sometimes even dolphins hang out.

View of Two Step

Getting in and out of the water might be hard for beginners because it doesn’t have a beach to ease you in. You use two natural steps carved into the volcanic rock (hence the name “two step”) and time your entry and exit with the waves. Once you’re in, it’s an easy and clear swim!

Sadly, we didn’t see any dolphins, but it was still a great snorkel because there were lots of fish to look at and even a couple sea turtles. The reefs in this area are also more interesting than the other spots we checked out earlier in the trip.

Recap: May 2018

If I had to sum up May, it’d be one huge cleaning and decluttering month. In addition to moving my sewing room, I also started tidying up and decluttering several rooms of our house. Everything else took a back seat (especially my hobbies) since I spent almost every day doing some sort of clean up.

I had a few big motivators!

  • The first is obviously the baby coming soon. I really needed to move the sewing room, so I could get started on the nursery, and cleaning up the house will help with baby proofing later.
  • My husband and I have also been thinking about moving to a different neighborhood within the next few years, and the thought of moving all the things we own seriously stressed me out. The more I can declutter now, the easier it’ll be later.
  • Two of my closest friends are visiting me from out of town (on two separate weekends) in June and will be staying at my house! I definitely need to make our place more presentable!
  • One of them is coming to host my baby shower, which will also be at my house. So yeah, I really need to get cleaning!
