Recap: September 2017

September was a pretty eventful month for me – most of which I expected, but there were also surprises. First, I took a day trip to San Japan, an Anime convention in San Antonio! It’s fairly close to Austin, so I just drive there and back in one day. I almost didn’t make it because there was a gas shortage caused by people freaking out and buying a ton of gas after hearing rumors that there was a gas shortage from Hurricane Harvey. (There wasn’t one originally.) Yeah, it’s as dumb as it sounds.

Fortunately, I was able to make it and meet up with the cosplayers I was photographing. Here’s a preview from each shoot! (Partial sets are uploaded to Facebook and Flickr.)

The week after that, I headed to Seattle for a few days for a friend’s wedding and also met up with friends I haven’t seen in years. I won’t go into details here since I already have an entry for it!

I also got a surprise invite from Pokemon Go last month. I was confused as to what it was until other friends were like, “wtf that’s for Mewtwo”. I apparently raided at a gym that was eligible for an invite?!

My husband and I showed up for the raid, and I was surprised to see the crowd that had gathered. It looked like around 60 people, and we split into three groups for the raid. It reminded me of the “good ol’ days” when Pokemon Go was popular. You know, back when people were happy and excited? That was the atmosphere at this raid, and it was fun to be a part of it.

When the raid opened up and Mewtwo appeared on the gym, my hands literally started shaking. For those who played Pokemon when you were young, don’t you remember the excitement you felt back then when you caught a rare Pokemon? Wouldn’t you want to feel that again? That’s what this raid was like for me. I was reliving my childhood all over again.

A few other things worth noting:

  • I finished one game in September: Batman Arkham Asylum.
  • I continued to exercise every day, except for the few days where I was traveling.
  • I started meditating because I had to work things out with someone I hate, which caused me a great amount of anxiety. Meditation has definitely helped, and I hope to add it to my daily habit. Shout out to Pauline for advocating it and recommending Calm!
  • A few toy figures started coming in that I pre-ordered a while ago. I did a little shoot when Victor arrived since Yuri released before him:

YURI YOUR HUSBANDO IS HERE

Don’t worry buddy, I got it

There ya go ^_^

As always, I’ll end this entry with monthly goals. These are the ones I set for September:

  • Bake again – Success! I repaired my stand mixer by replacing a worn out gear, and then I got to work on testing it. I made chocolate cookies and lemon-orange cupcakes, and I’m about to bake a carrot cake for someone’s birthday.

  • Repair and fine tune cosplays – Sort of? I started on new boot covers for my Tashigi cosplay, and I’ve ordered supplies to make long fall boots for my Chell cosplay. Neither are finished, but at least it’s progress.
  • Donate stuff – Almost! I have things set aside and boxed up, and I’m planning to stop by a donation center tomorrow!

And now for October goals:

  • Participate in and complete Inktober – Which is where you do an ink drawing every day in October. I made a list of things I want to draw, and I bought a new sketchbook and pens. I’m ready! …maybe. Finding time to do a drawing every day will be a struggle, but I’m going to try my best!

That’s it for October goals because I know completing Inktober will be a tough one. I’ll also be busy with my work’s annual user conference, and I’m involved in planning our company Halloween party this year. There’s a lot going on, but I think it’s going to be a fun month!

Glad your September went well despite the gas shortage scare. At least it was just a rumor and didn’t actually happen! Your photographs are so legit! You know how to capture the best angles!

I love how you’re dedicated to PokemonGo! I wish I kept up with it because I am missing out on all of the good stuff @___@. Go you for exercising every day! Gotta keep your health up and running ;). Your baked goods look so tasty! Good luck with Inktober!

OMG I laughed so hard at the idiots lining up for gas in my little town. I was so annoyed because it was really a hazard with how they were lining up in the streets causing traffic problems. UG

Those cosplay photo’s are great! You are very talented for sure. The cosplayers did a good job with their costumes too. XD

Exercise… sigh I really need to do it more again. orz It’s great that you are keeping up with it though. ♥

Those figures!!! OMG so cute!! Love it! I need to take pictures of the ones I have someday.

Yum, baking… yeah gotta stay away from that for a while to lose my weight since exercise is something I can do from time to time. Blah

Your cosplay pictures always look super awesome! One of these days I’m going to make it down to a TX con and see you!

Aaaah my gosh! That Mewtwo looks so awesome. I don’t live near a lot of pokestops and my phone’s battery sucks so I haven’t been playing as much as I’d like ;A; but with all this new stuff coming out, I’m super excited to get back into it.

I love baking =u= but I can’t eat that many baked goods. Especially since I don’t exercise as much as I’d like to, haha. But Christmas is coming up so it’s an excuse to bake and then push the baked goods on others.

I am telling that you have a great eye and talent for photography! WOOT! Your September passed quickly and you were busy indeed.

Yay! For new Pokemon in Pokemon Go which reminds me that I should start playing again and have the excuse to walk my dog, Marley. I wish I could bake because I am terrible at it XD

Omg Mewtwo! I haven’t played Pokemon Go in ages now. I miss when it was really popular. I always used to attend meet ups and there’d be so many Pokémon. I’d have still kept playing if where I lived wasn’t such a terrible area for Pokémon/Pokestops. I think there’s only two in an hour’s walking distance…

I need to complete Arkham Asylum. I finally finished Arkham Knight a few months ago, but I’ve barely played anything since, unfortunately. I still need to crack on with Pokémon Moon as well!

Glad September went well and good luck with Inktober!

I’m glad that you got to go to your convention despite the little panic initially. You took some awesome shots, Cat – as per usual of course 😉

Ahhh, reading about your excitement over Pokemon Go and the group of people has actually motivated me to play it again! I remember the good ‘ol days when it was super popular, haha. The hype was contagious!

I’m super happy to hear that you’ve been exercising almost every day – GO YOU. YOUR FUTURE SELF IS THANKING YOU. <3 Let me know how Calm goes for you – It's the best habit I've ever introduced in my life.

HOMG AT THE YOI FIGURINES! I am dying from the cutes. Holy cow, the two of them with Makkachin!?!??! The fangirl in me is squealing in happiness. And I LMAOed at the caption about Yuuri’s husband being here XD

Yum for the baking! The cookies and cupcakes look delish. And that carrot cake sounds so good, too.

Sounds like you had a productive September! ^^
