Little Happy Things

Lately I’ve noticed that I have been happier. It’s not that I wasn’t before I guess, but I remember feeling very stressed out a few months ago. I think it was mainly being overwhelmed at work and not being fully prepared for my team’s growth. I was mentoring 3 interns, had 4 new hires start around the same time, and was switching to more of a management position.

Don’t get me wrong; I was relieved to have more people! My team definitely needed the help! It took me a few months of trying new things to organize all the chaos. Now we have found what works for us, are working together well, and my team has told me that they really like my management style. Even if my work is still as busy as before… it feels really good now which makes me happy πŸ™‚

And when things feel good, even little things just put me in a very good mood. Some small things that have made me happy…

  • Knowing alternate routes to work and feeling like a car ninja when I take back roads to bypass traffic.
  • Quoting a lesser known movie I love and having people recognize and respond to it. “You use this word? Alcoves?” “Nooks and crannies, yes!”
  • Looking at my work calendar for the day and seeing it free of meetings. (This is a rarity now.)
  • Having people miss me while I was out on vacation and then having them joke that I’m not allowed to leave anymore XD;;
  • Randomly finding Pocky flavors I haven’t tried yet. Did you know there’s a chocolate banana flavor?
  • When my husband has the same food craving as me. “What should we eat tonight?” “I kind of want ramen…” “I was thinking the same thing!”
  • Hanging up new art on the walls.
  • Emptying the vacuum cleaner and seeing how much it picked up. (Ok this is also kind of gross, but it’s satisfying, you know?)
  • When the radio station plays several songs in a row that I like.
  • That last hour in the work day when most people have gone home, and I can do a bit of coding.
  • Post processing my photos and feeling proud of the results. Here’s a preview of what I’ll be sharing in my first Maui entry!

Are there any small things that have made you happy too? I hope everyone has a great week!

Yay for happy thoughts! :3 I’m glad things settled down for you with the transitional phases you’ve gone through and with the new teammates joining you. That’s great that your management style is working and that you get complimented on it!

I hope things continue to be great for you. Do enjoy all those random bits of happiness! ^_^

That sounds really stressful even for good reasons! I’m glad that the new flow has taken place and now you have some time to maneuver around πŸ™‚

I have so many happy little things I could post but I agree that it’s awesome when you and your SO are on the same page! I love it when my husband and I are thinking the same thing for an activity or food.

I’ve been appreciating nature and my body more. Just little things like my hair looking good or even a little twinkle in my eyes.

Hope you had a great vacation and enjoy the rest of the week!

Wow – that would be a lot to be mentoring three interns and have 4 new hires. It makes me exhausted thinking about it, haha. I’m glad that it has all come together now! I’m sure you would be a great manager, Cat!

LOL. I love taking backroads to bypass traffic. I feel like I have so much more power and knowledge than all these other people that are sitting in traffic… when really I just took a wrong turn once and it actually worked. πŸ˜›

I totally get emptying the vacuum cleaner! It’s like, look how clean my floors now are because of all this dirt in here! Very satisfying indeed!

    • Cat says:

Awe thanks! haha, that is the exact thought I have when it comes to emptying the vacuum cleaner. It makes me feel so good about clean floors πŸ™‚

Yay, I’m getting the happy vibe through this post too! I’m really glad everything worked out! When I vacuum my room, I always have to grab a handful of long hairs from the mouth of the vacuum (otherwise it gets plugged) and that’s sooo satisfying ^^” I also LOVE the photo!!

Hurray for being happier these days! It’s good to be a mentor and help people grow into organizations. Back roads are awesome! I found a couple in some places around but can’t drive like a speed demon on them because my car has bad handling XD. Meeting-free work days are awesome. I don’t know why I get myself into webinars, lol!

I wish the radio station can play the songs that I like. I always have to plug in Spotify on my drives :6. Looks like you had a blast at Maui!

    Yay for feeling happier!

I’ve been a lot happier lately, too. For the first time in what feels like forever, I’m actually looking forward to Christmas celebrations instead of wanting absolutely nothing to do with it.

I didn’t know there was a chocolate banana Pocky flavor. :p

Yay for feeling happier and getting everything organized and working smoothly! πŸ˜€

Hm… that’s a hard question because I don’t spend a lot of time happy anymore. I suppose any time I’m with my boyfriend I’m happy, and when I get to hang out with a dog I’m happy.

  • Michelle says:

Me too! I’ve been happier since I got my job, and just feel so much chipper about it! Also, Marley and I have been bonding closer than ever and she really changes my mood and energy.

She makes me happy. Can’t wait to see the rest of your photos.

Hearing that you’re feeling happier is a relief to me as I don’t hear this that often these days. I remember that you were pretty stressed out the last few months but the storming phase seems to have passed and now you’re entering the “norming” phase with your team. It’s really great to hear! It’s also the smaller token of appreciation I think adds to your growing happiness and sometimes all you have to do it is accept them. πŸ™‚ I hope happiness keeps coming to find you because I am definitely looking forward to my happiness after my storming phase πŸ™‚

There’s beauty in small simple things. And studies have shown that even being thankful for simple things on a daily basis contributes greatly to happiness. πŸ˜€ Here’s to more things to be thankful for, have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Small things are what actually make us happy. Extravagance is nice but short lived I think! It’s not about not wanting extravagance but being happy with the small things that can keep us happy.

I did NOT know there’s a chocolate banana flavor but I love how pockys have so many flavors to discover.

Hmm small things that make me happy would be seeing my friends. Every day when I see a different friend the little conversations are nice. The days I don’t look forward to most are Mondays and Tuesdays because I work all day and then have a lot of work to do so I don’t head to campus! I’m considering doing more work on campus though but there’s the chance I’d get easily distracted.

  • Raisa says:

I’m glad your team’s found its footing after a few months! I always tell new people that it always get better, and it really does.

I feel you on the vacuum cleaner! I use Swiffer and I love looking at how much dirt it picks up. XD Clean floors are the best!
