My favorite things: June 2015

my-favorite-things

Thanks to those who were concerned and asked if I was ok because of the recent flooding! Some of you might know that Texas and Oklahoma have been getting a ridiculous amount of rain, which has caused severe flooding in some cities. I live in Austin, which did flood, but mainly in and near the downtown areas. I live in the north part of Austin, which fortunately didn’t flood. We just lost power a few times, and that was it.

On a positive note, the weather has been great lately (no more rain!), and it’s time for another entry to the My Favorite Things link up! Here’s what I’ve been loving the past month.

Haikyuu!!

haikyu

I’m a sucker for sports Anime. They are kind of ridiculous and exaggerate everything, but they really pull me in and make sports more exciting than the real thing. Haikyuu!! is one about volleyball, focusing on the high school, Karasuno. I also finished the second season of Free! recently, which is about swimming.

What I like about both Haikyuu and Free is that no one has “super powers“, and while they have good players, none of them are perfect. (As much as I love Prince of Tennis, that series was very guilty of this.) They still have cheesy lines and drawn out scenes, but at least the moves they do are somewhat believable. Anyway, Haikyuu is a fun series to watch, and the characters crack me up 🙂 I can see why it’s been so popular lately!

Splatoon Amiibos

splatoon-amiibo-1

Splatoon is a new game for Wii U where you are armed with ink-filled guns and are trying to cover the arena with your team’s color while going against another team. I played it during the global testfire, and while I thought it was fun… I really couldn’t see myself playing the game very much.

So, I didn’t buy it. But I did buy the amiibos! (My amiibo addiction is getting out of hand.) I really love these Splatoon amiibos, especially the one of Inkling Girl. I have 12 of the amiibos that they made for Super Smash Bros, and in comparison, I feel like the Splatoon ones are nicer quality. They are my current favorites in my collection!

Yoshi’s Wooly World Videos

UM HOW CUTE ARE THESE??? Nintendo, you’re killing me with all these adorable previews of Yoshi’s Wooly World. Cuteness overload. I NEED this game.

I hope everyone is having a lovely summer! This time of year is actually my busiest since I’m mentoring 3 interns. I enjoy it, though it does suck up a bunch of my time 🙂 I will do my best to keep up with blogging and commenting!

I love love the Wooly World Yoshi commercials. I want the amiibo of it so so so bad! It’s so cute =) Now, I should buy those Splatoon amiibos since I love underwater and ocean life, like Ultros (which they have as a cute homage to him in one of the stages) and sea life in general.

Also a cute anime to watch is Squid Girl. It is so cute, that I am squidding myself. Lol I believe it is still on Netflix or you can find it anywhere else. It’s so so cute. I feel like it’s in the same vein of cuteness like Splatoon.

I still need to watch Haikyuu!!! I loved Prince of Tennis but some of the power shots looked absolutely ridiculous. There was one of Echizen’s (I think?) serve that morphed into a meteor that killed all the dinosaurs and I was just like STOP. XD

But I love sports anime so much! Slam Dunk was my first. :3

    • Cat says:

haha, Echizen had some crazy stuff. I always remember Takashi powering up his shots, and they would show it looking like a fireball and breaking people’s rackets. It’s too much!

Slam Dunk was my first too! I’m probably going to watch Kuroko’s Basketball next XD

  • Bhairavee says:

All three of your favourite things were new for me.
My sister watches anime a lot these days. I am more into the English tv shows now so I have no idea what is going on in the anime world 🙁

  • Tara says:

Never heard of Haikyuu or the Yoshi thing until now. Thanks for introducing it to me! I agree that the Yoshi thing looks adorable! Nintendo is definitely wanting to get your moola, haha! 😀

  • Jhanz says:

Splatoon looks super cute!!! I want!

  • Eirene says:

Haikyuu is on my never ending list of things to watch!! I totally get what you mean by no super powers in sports animes! Kuroko no Basket is one of my faves but really, vanishing point lol? Those wooly Yoshi’s are so cute!

Thanks for joining our monthly linkup! Glad to know you’re safe from the floods!

  • Ongaku says:

Those durn sports animes lol I never wanted to watch them in fear of getting addicted… lol I need to try and watch Haikyuu again though. I never got that addicted but I did enjoy it. Probably the one I’m most addicted to right now is Kuroko no Basket and that one is ridiculous with their special attacks, lol.

I only read one strip of sports anime in a battered copy of Shonen Jump I bought to read Yu-Gi-Oh in – I think it was called Whistle? I really enjoyed it! I didn’t get around to demo-ing Splatoon, though I don’t think I’m going to buy it. I still haven’t purchased a single Amiibo, I spent far too much money of Skylanders a few years ago and never quite got over it!
Yoshi’s Wooly World is the cutest thing I have seen!
    Hope the interns are behaving!

  • Liv says:

I’m so glad you’re okay. I read a news article about a high school homecoming queen who was swept away by those waters on her way home from prom. 🙁 The weather has been crazy.

Are Haikyuu and Free supposed to only have around 20 episodes each? I might check them out then! I’m so used to Naruto having 3753285 episodes.

I really want the Yoshi game too haha, it’s just like Kirby’s Epic Yarn! Though that game was harder than it advertises, it was still an enjoyable title hehe.

    • Cat says:

Yep, Free is only 26 episodes! (There’s a summer special episode that Crunchyroll doesn’t have for some reason.) I think Haikyuu is getting another season, but for right now, it’s only season 1 🙂 They’re both easy to catch up on!

  • Josie says:

I’ve never commented on your blog before but I did the My Favourite Things link-up this month too (I literally just started a new blog, so it seemed like a good first post idea) so I’m taking a look at everyone else’s too.

Urgh, flooding sucks. When I lived in the UK I lived up a hill so there was no danger of flooding there but it’s a big problem in the country in general, I’ve heard of a lot of people losing their homes to floods, so I’m glad your area was okay!

Haikyuu! is an anime definitely on my to-watch list. It’s so huge in Japan right now (I can’t go anywhere without seeing something related to it) and it seems they’re also making a musical of it at some point, so I’d really like to get into it (and drain my money in more places…) And Free is really popular too… I need to take some time to sit down and actually watch some of these things.

  • Karin says:

Omg, I just about died of cuteness overload from the woolly Yoshi’s! As a big fan of everything Yoshi I will have to get that game, I don’t even care if it’s for children! 😀

  • Nancy says:

I hope you’re staying safe from the flooding! I can’t believe there’s a flooding in this time of year! I’m glad to hear that there were minor occurrences happening. Hopefully the power outage didn’t create a short circuit on the computers!

I remembered watching Haikyuu!! when I joined in Alice’s (arose) screen share a few months ago. I’m amazed how popular the sports anime can get! I somehow think the character with the yellow/orangy hair are always the main characters XD.

I love how you’ve built an empire of figurines! :D! Good luck with mentoring the new interns! Inspire and motivate them!

  • Alice says:

I kinda stop following anime bandwagon (read: fandom) when the fans start getting all crazy and ridiculous BUT i agree that haikyuu is a good anime. I don’t like Free and after watching the first season, I laughed at how dramatic it is. a lot of girls i see tend to love Free and I just can’t. seem. to fathom… why? hm, maybe because i’ve always been more of a nerd for games 😛 when you mention superpowers in sports anime, i instantly thought of kuroko no basket instead of prince of tennis lol

ah splatoon. i didn’t watch nintendo’s panel at E3 because i’m not a nintendo fan in general but i think they talked about splatoon too this year? hm… not sure. but cute game nonetheless!

Sorry! This entry is old, so comments are closed. Check out my recent blog posts though!
