Home Decor – entryway

We had a messy entryway for a while because we had wooden boards and flattened cardboard boxes leaned against the wall. A few months ago, we cleaned those out, and while it looked better, it still looked very plain.

I wanted to do something about it! At the very least, I wanted something for guests to sit down at while they put on their shoes. I had a few things in mind:

  1. A console table and two chairs – one on each side of the table
  2. A bench and a coat rack
  3. A bench and wall hooks

I ended up going with idea #2. I liked the idea of using a bench because it could fit more people, and it doubles as a shoe rack. I’ve also always liked the look of coat racks. They can look nice when empty and are also functional to hang things on.

So we bought them!

The bench is the Tjusig bench from Ikea, and the coat rack is this one from Amazon. I love that the coat rack looks like a decorative piece when nothing is on it.

Why so little shoes? Most of ours are in the garage entry.

You might notice that the coat rack is next to a coat closet and wonder why we need a coat rack to begin with. We’ve actually been using the coat closet to store various things, and a coat rack seemed more convenient for guests to grab their coats on their way out.

Other small additions include a doormat near the door (this one on Amazon). We already had one outside but having one inside helps keep the floor clean. And of course, wall art!

It’s a 30×20 canvas of a photo I took on Kauai (Hawaii) during our honeymoon a few years ago. I actually printed this a while ago but had it hung up somewhere else. I moved it to the entryway since I felt that the entryway had too much black furniture. This canvas adds a bit of color!

It’s only a few new additions, but I feel like the entryway is much more functional than it was before already 🙂 We’ve had guests over on a few occasions since putting these in, and it’s nice to see people noticing the canvas and using the bench!

    I love that coat rack!

Your canvas just gave me a great idea. I have a few photos from holidays that I particularly love. I’m going to get them printed and place them around our flat!

I’m making a note of the bench/shoe rack for future reference. I’d love to have something like that when I get a house. I like how you’ve kept this space simple but functional. It looks great!

I love the new layout by the way!

The entryway looks fantastic! And the bench is a good idea because it also give those who are horribly coordinated to sit and put their shoes on. Of course, if you allow shoes in the house, that may not matter, but I’m used to the no shoes in the house concept.

The coat rack looks good! And moving that gorgeous Hawaii photo there is a great idea!

I like the idea of printing photos onto a canvas! It’s a great way to showcase photos of your own. 😮

The bench is a cute little thing. c: If I ever have an entryway big enough for a bench, I think I’ll go with that route. c: I love how the coat rack looks a lot like a vine/tree/stem.

That looks really nice, clean and simple. The best way. That is an excellent coat rack, I will need to look into it sometime. I love that picture! I wasn’t surprised to see you had taken that picture XD

    Love your new layout!

Your hallway is so nice! You’ve done an amazing job, and the coat stand is lovely. It looks really organic, and suits the hallway really well. The canvas is lovely, that’s a beautiful photo, and it’s a nice memory to have at such a prominent place in the house. I wish I had an entrance way!

Is it strange that to me it looks like your entry way is bigger now with those two pieces in it? I love the sleek coat rack and the shoe holder. I also love your tile floors!

It looks so awesome and inviting now! 😀 The coat rack has such a cool design about it, that it kind of becomes a bit of functional art as well. 😀

It is also awesome that you have a print of your own photo, and that is there to greet people, because it adds a cool personal touch.

Ikea is great when it comes to smaller furniture pieces like benches and console tables. I love that the print in your entryway was a photo taken by you, really gives the decor a personal touch 🙂
