My Favorite Things: March 2015

my-favorite-things

Another month, another entry to the My Favorite Things link up! This entry comes at a good time because it’s been a very frustrating week. It feels good to think about things that have made me happy lately instead of the negativity that has been happening (which I unfortunately cannot talk about).

Forest app

At work, I use Simple Blocker in Chrome to block distracting websites during times when I need to focus. Last month, I took it a step further and got the Forest app for my phone too. It’s a very simple and cute app that helps you stay away from your phone.

You plant a seed, and if you close/minimize the app to check other things on your phone before it grows, the tree dies! And that’s sad! Each seed takes half an hour to grow, so you can plant multiple seeds to increase the timer. After using this app for about a week, I broke my habit of always reaching for my phone. I still use the app during busy times, but I no longer need it to keep myself away for long periods of time.

Peter Hollens

I was first introduced to Peter Hollens when he did a Skyrim collaboration with Lindsey Stirling, and last month I started checking out more videos in his channel. He does A Capella versions of songs, except he sings all of the parts! He records them separately and then puts them together. Though it sounds like a group of people singing, it’s all from one person. I know there’s a lot of Youtube channels like this, but I’m a big fan of Peter’s voice and was addicted to his song covers last month.

I Can’t Understand What My Husband Is Saying

anime-husband

This Anime series is only 13 episodes and are about 3 minutes each. It was easy for me to finish this in one sitting in under an hour. It’s about a married couple, where the husband is an otaku (obsessive Anime fan) and the wife isn’t. There were many funny moments that I cracked up over, and it’s also surprisingly cute and touching in other parts. I was kind of amazed at what they could fit into such short episodes.

It also made me realize that the relationship is not that far off from mine and my husband. I can get obsessive about things, and um… he doesn’t XD;; Anyway, I had a lot of fun watching this one, and it’s free on Crunchyroll!

Majora’s Mask

majoras_mask_3ds_02

I already wrote about this before, but I loved this game back in the N64 days and made sure I got the remake for the 3DS. I’ve been playing it a lot lately! It brings back so many good memories, and I like most of the changes that they made.

My favorite change is that the Song of Double Time now lets you choose the exact hour to forward to. The Bomber’s notebook has also improved to better keep track of side quests, and saving the game is more convenient too. I’m actually near the end of the game now, which is a bit sad!

Anyway, I’m glad it’s the weekend now. I’m going to spend it relaxing and playing a bunch of video games πŸ™‚

That Forest app sounds pretty neat! I may look into that.

And that anime sounds like win. I love how the husband’s an otaku, and the wife isn’t. Now they need to make one that’s the other way around XD Too bad Crunchyroll is not accessible for me. Darn geo-blocking!!!

  • Jhanz says:

Downloaded the Forest App and I’m starting to watch I Can’t Understand What My Husband is Saying! Haha it’s cute and funny, I can’t get enough!

  • Carolynne says:

That Peter Hollens is so talented!!! Holy crap. I could waste so many hours watching his videos!!

  • Olivia says:

I think the Forest App is just what I need. Especially when I’m trying to study or do my homework, my phone needs me the most… ._. That reminds me, I still haven’t finished A Link Between Worlds on the 3DS, I should do that soon! (I believe I was stuck at the last part.) Thanks for sharing, I hope the negativity goes away soon and there is more room for happy times!

  • Ha, that app! What a clever thing, sounds like a pretty fun way to stick to your task at hand and not get distracted. Thanks a lot for sharing it, I’ll definitely check it out and give it a try πŸ™‚

Forest App is controlling me! just joking XD
I installed the app a few days ago, and I was amazed on how much time I have spent without reaching out for my phones, checking on nothing, and it saves the battery too! the song is nice! i should check out other songs too~ listened too much korean music that these days, I feel like listening to something else XD

  • Raisa says:

Oh gosh, I watched I Can’t Understand What My Husband is Saying in one sitting last night. It’s so cute! I can definitely see some parallels to my own marriage, except I’m the obsessive fan with the blog. XD I’m so happy there’s a second season. Thank you for introducing me to it! ^_^

  • Sarah says:

The Forest App is quite cute! Do you need to leave your phone on it though? As in, can you phone go to sleep or does it need to stay active for it to work?

  • Amy says:

Ooooh that forest app is rather cute! I’ve already gotten used to not checking my phone all the time and only when it pings.

The anime sounds really funny. I must watch it! I’ve been watching lots of dramas this weekend XDDD

  • Jenny says:

I’m always on my phone, so I could really use that Forest app! And it’s super cute too!
I Can’t Understand What My Husband Is Saying looks really funny, and I like how each episode is so short!

  • Amanda says:

I think I’m going to check out the Forest app. I have a huge habit of picking up my phone every couple of seconds even if I don’t even need it. It’s a terrible habit that I’d love to break.

I’m liking how I Cant Understand What My Husband Is Saying is short! I just might watch it, hehe. My bf loves animes and mangas much more than I do so I’m assuming it’s going to be a funny and relatable watch. ^-^

  • Michelle says:

OOh, those do sound like awesome favorite things! ^^ Especially that anime and MM!

  • Holly says:

The Forest app sounds really clever. I wonder if you can get it on iPad, because I definitely spend more time on that than my phone. I have a horrendous addiction!

  • AnneMarie says:

I definitely thought “I Can’t Understand What My Husband is Saying” was you saying that the fact you can’t understand your husband makes you happy. Then I realized it was a TV show.

And the Forest App sounds interesting. There are so many phone apps these days. I’d rather just stay away from my phone at this point.

  • Uglyfish says:

I’ve just downloaded that app! It looks amazing, and it has a beautiful interface too.
I can’t find my DS! Majora’s Mask playtime is severely lacking. I hope I’ve left it in work, but I doubt I have. It’ll be in a bag somewhere =[
I love Peter’s Skyrim collection, but I hadn’t heard this one. It’s beautiful!

  • Nancy says:

I like the look of the Forest app! It looks so simple and definitely cute. It’s so cool that you can grow a plant by not touching your phone. I think I should install this app for finals week XD. I did a pretty bad job these past few days while going on the phone every 4 minutes while studying &___&

It’s pretty cool when there are things done inspired by games! Speaking of Skyrim, I want to replay it but where is the time?!

That anime reminds me about me and my boyfriend because he’s the anime/manga fan between the both of us… Aside from the fact that I watched Knights of Sidonia over the winter. And what’s awesome is that you don’t need to dedicate hours for a season :D.

Sorry! This entry is old, so comments are closed. Check out my recent blog posts though!
